Department of agricultural and biomedical biotechnology
Overview
The Department of Agricultural and Medical Biotechnology is an academic unit under the Faculty of Biology and Environment. Established from the former Cell Biotechnology Unit, the Department was developed to meet the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, focusing on advanced biotechnological applications in agriculture, medicine, and life sciences.
The Department plays a key role in undergraduate and postgraduate education in Biotechnology, in close collaboration with other departments within the faculty.
Education
The Department is responsible for delivering undergraduate and postgraduate training programs in Agricultural Biotechnology and Medical Biotechnology. Academic staff also participate in teaching courses for related disciplines, including:
- Environmental Engineering
- Food Technology
- Food Quality Assurance and Safety
- Nutrition and Culinary Science
In addition to formal degree programs, the Department offers short-term professional training courses and certificate programs, enhancing graduates’ professional competencies and adaptability to diverse career pathways.
Research and Innovation
Research activities focus on plant biotechnology, cell and tissue culture, medicinal plants, bioactive compounds, and applied biotechnology. Faculty members and students actively engage in research projects at institutional, provincial, and national levels.
Research outputs have been published in high-quality international peer-reviewed journals, contributing to scientific advancement and practical applications in agriculture and healthcare.

The Department maintains strong collaboration with enterprises, research institutes, laboratories, and production facilities. Regular industrial visits, internships, and field-based training enable students to:
